Understanding Injection Sensations: Needle vs. Medications
When administering injections, many individuals experience a burning sensation and often wonder whether it's caused by the needle or the medication. At Digivibe by Suthe, we've found that the discomfort is typically due to the needle insertion itself.
Why does this happen?
The pain from a needle entering the abdominal area takes about 3 to 5 seconds to reach the brain, where the pain is perceived as a burning feeling. This delay can lead to the misconception that the medication is causing the sensation, but it is usually the needle.
How to Differentiate Between Needle and Medication Sensations
To identify the source of the discomfort:
- Insert the Needle: Gently insert the needle into the skin.
- Wait 5 Seconds: Pause before injecting the medication.
- Observe Sensations: If you feel a burning sensation during this wait, it's likely from the needle.
